The Curiosity Machine

at MOXI, the Wolf museum of Exploration +Innovation

The Curiosity Machine is a multi-story climbing structure for MOXI, the Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation developed by Process Curiosity. This climbing structure was part of a larger refresh of experiences including all three floors of the museum.

The Curiosity Machine is designed to allow visitors of all ages and ability to explore a series of towers, climbing tunnels, and interactives. All while working together to activate the machine. This encourages exploration as well as the development of gross motor skills and cognitive abilities through climbing, hand-eye coordination, and active movement. The many materials, colors, and design elements bring a large, new, whimsical experience and visual to MOXI.

I was the lead designer for Process Curiosity on this project in collaboration with members of MOXI, A+B Studios, and T&S Structural.

I worked directly with MOXI in developing the Curiosity Machine starting with exhibit planning and ideation, leading to conceptual design and circulation panning, and finally 3D modeling and schematic design. This process included the design of the climber structure as well as several exhibits throughout that provide multiple ways to engage with the Curiosity Machine.
